An application was filed with Citrus County Dept
of Development Services to change the zoning designation on a 90
X 90 plot of land located within the Citrus Springs Golf and
Country Club at 8690 N. Golfview Dr. The reason for the request
is to allow for the erection of a 190 foot monopole
telecommunications tower. The plot of land is located somewhat
in the center of the golf course, and I understand it will be
near an existing Maintenance Bldg. (A copy of the Legal Notice
can be found in Monday, August 17th Citrus County Chronicle
Page: B13 # 411-0824 MCRN – AA-09-21). Questions can be directed
to the Community Development Division – 352-527-5239. A Public
Meeting with the Planning and Development Review Board was held
on September 3, 2009.

There was a good turnout of Citrus Springs Residents today
at the Citrus County Planning and Development Review Board
Meeting.
All residents that spoke today were in opposition to the
Tower; however, the Review Board followed the Staff
Recommendation and approved the Zoning Change.
This Zoning change still requires the approval of the Citrus
County Board of County Commissioners; therefore, interested
parties should plan on attending the BOCC Meeting on which
this item appears as an agenda item.
Thanks to all those that took the time to attend today’s
session.

Happy fall!
All of our children are back in school and working hard, and
now it is time for us to resume our monthly Civic
Association meetings and work hard to make our community the
best it can be. The first meeting is scheduled for September
17th, 7:30, at the Community Center. We have many issues to
address that will affect all of us living in this community.
The first and hottest issue as of now is the T-Mobile cell
phone tower that is proposed on the 6th hole of the Citrus
Springs Country Club. Several citizens attended the Planning
and Review Board meeting held September 3rd to ‘discuss’ the
situation with the board members. Apparently our citizens
became very frustrated, “hurling insults” at the board
members (according to the chronicle article Sept. 5th),
which resulted in the board member, J.J. Bard remarking “the
rudeness from the audience does not help your cause”. Maybe
we should look at the “rudeness” of the board, who by the
way are all volunteers, the attorney Lauralee Westine, and
Brassboys Enterprises who own the golf course.
Let’s start with the Planning and Review Board who held a
bogus meeting, having already decided to do what they were
told and approved the change in zoning. If that was the
case, why have people waste their time and gas to basically
have something predetermined shoved down their throats.
Next we have the attorney, Lauralee Westine, who claims to
have sent all of the homeowners within a mile of the
proposed 190 foot monopole a letter. Hmm! Imagine this, they
didn’t receive any letters!! Not only that, she claims to
have searched the area and the golf course property is the
best location. Those of us who live here know there is a ton
of empty property at Citrus Springs Blvd. and Dunklin, do
you think she even knows that is part of Citrus Springs?
Joe Meek is scheduled to attend our meeting September 17th;
I hope many of you will as well. This is an issue where we
need to present a united front of more than 30 people and
hopefully have an influence on the County Commissioners.
See you the 17th,
Marie Fulks, President Citrus Springs Civic Association

Hello neighbors,
For those of you who could not make it to the meeting last
Thursday, the topic of the 190 foot cell tower was
discussed. It is supposed to be going up on the 17th hole of
the Citrus Springs Country Club golf course. It is strange
that we would need one there since there are already four
towers in Citrus Springs. They are not that tall, but it
would seem one of them could be updated to include T-Mobile,
or even raised higher if that would improve service.
As you probably read in the Chronicle, the Planning
Development and Review Board have approved the new tower,
but it has to be approved for rezoning by the County
Commissioners . That hearing should take place sometime late
October or early November, depending on their schedule.
What we are asking, is that you write, e-mail, or call
all of the
commissioners and
let them know there is plenty of land platted in Citrus
Springs for a tower that would not require rezoning. Many of
those areas are not as heavily populated as the golf course
area, and might provide a better area of service. Rezoning
can become a scary habit and could result in some less than
desirable results.
As a side note, the owner of the golf course has a 90 foot
pole on all of the courses he owns which brings in
considerable monthly revenue. Hmmm, don't know!!
Please help your neighbors.
Thank you,
Marie Fulks, Citrus Springs Civic Assoc. President
1/26/2010, the Citrus County Board
of County Commissioners rejected Atlas Amendment AA-09-021;
therefore, the land will remain PDR-Park and the tower will
not be built.
